It was near the end of my end of my 8th semester in college of 2011 (5th year senior here). I should have been finishing my current projects and preparing for finals that night; instead I got on PlayStation 3. I love to play Call of Duty, whose community is filled with racist, ignorant, immature, and bad-mannered people.
I suppose we were bored that night. Three of us decided to make new screen names of famous female singers, predicting instant hits in the testosterone-filled lobby rooms of Call of Duty. My friends made names along the lines of nicki_minaj1 and x-kellyclarkson-x. I chose Lady Gaga for her contemporary fame, catchy songs, and notorious stage name. This is how “lady_gaga_3000” was born. Depending on whom you talk to, that screen name was an instant hit. People would call me gay and fag and other creative and degrading words within seconds of joining a new game lobby. I would just laugh at the pure hatred screamed at me through my headset. It must be humbling when guys get beat by a band of losers led by lady_gaga_3000. I wonder if the screen name would be infamous in the COD community should I ever be good enough to go pro.
I eventually brought this screen name over to ESPN. I used to be enamored with ESPN’s Streak for the Cash’s approachability and simplicity of picking professional sports events. For whatever reason, I stopped playing and forgot my username and password. So I decided lady.gaga.3000 could get some funny looks in the user comments of our favorite sporting events. What’s more thrilling than having a 50% chance at winning every time on Streak for the Cash in the name of Lady Gaga?!?
Since I can get sued for using Gaga’s name for this blog’s purposes, I will go with an alias for my alias, LG3K.
As far as teams go, I love the Houston Texans. Seriously. Some people like to say they are the biggest fan of their team. Doubtfully the biggest, but I sure do love my Houston Texans.
I remember growing up as a kid my dad brought me to a few games. I have followed the Texans since the expansion draft when they took Tony Boselli with the first pick. David Carr was always cool as a kid because he was our first quarterback. Now, I compare him to Blaine Gabbert. My most memorable game was when the Texans played the Falcons back when Vick was with them. In the preseason I think Vick broke his leg, so this was the first game he returned to. I think he came in the middle of the game and I screamed "LOOK ITS VICK" and nobody heard me. As a kid this is one of those awkward moments that doesn't escape the mind that easily.
Sports is entertainment. Since managing a fantasy team is about the closest I'll come to being a general manager, I have a lot of fun with it. I like to research the different variables, aspects, and tangibles of teams and their players. I also like to take note of objective variables that factor into sports such as stats (some thanks to Billy Beane) when analyzing both real and fantasy games.
