I'm not a good picker. If I sound like I am bragging, I'm not, and it's by accident. If I was patient, I could build a nice streak...but I'm not patient when it comes to being selective.
Update #1: As of Jan 20, I have done minimal research and have followed the sheeple. The result? A horrible 3-7 record in the past three days.
As of January 17, 2012:

I fall for trap games all the time.
Here is an example of me being confident in the Houston Texans:
Very non-objective post in an article about the Vegas playoff odds. I was confident that Houston would cover in their first ever playoff game. In Houston. Against the Bengals.

This is the normal fan mail I get.
I didn't provide any valid or reasonable argument at that time, probably because I was busy those days. But I knew Houston would do it.
As for the NFL playoffs, I'm doing pretty well.
I follow NBA, MLB, and NCAAF to an extent. I watched the first meeting between Alabama and LSU. On the second meeting, I picked LSU because they won in Tuscaloosa and assumed the Superdome would be filled with more Tiger fans. I overlooked (forgot) the fact that if one of Alabama's kickers would have made one of the four missed kicks there would have never been an overtime. Silly Jordan Jefferson fooling me into picking you again.

Ouch!
The World Cup and some of the NHL playoffs are the only things that get my attention in their respective sports. Every other sport I have picked on a whim, picked because it looked like a good victory.
This is one of the only times I extensively researched a match that was not an NFL game. It took me almost an hour to dig up some trends and add up stats before I stopped. I realized at this point that most paid analyst probably have a little minion army of interns and such that watch film and dig up those interesting stats. I found more than I wrote but I decided to keep it short and sweet to the prop.

Kuric never played and Smith played a whopping 39 minutes that game.
Louisville actually attempted 23 three pointers that game, making seven of them.
Soccer is a funny sport because I really feel that it is a toss up unless a person really follows the Greek, Turkey, and all the other intergalatic-space leagues. I have been a good guesser for the most part thanks to some insightful analysis. I trust them and they tend to follow through.
How awesome is it to bet an imaginary wager on the Turkish Super League??? ESPN had a prop for a soccer game where one team had to win by 2 or more goals. I liked the odds of the away team because if they can score just ONE goal, the other team would need three. They couldn't be that bad right?
Picture picking the underdog, Gaziantepspor. They are up 1-0 around the 70th minute. Patting myself on the back for a smart pick for win #6, I present you the outcome.
Got to love this game!
